The Instagram search tool is very helpful for looking up people, hashtags and places! In this article, we’ll show you how to use each one and how it can help you discover more in the app.
Instagram Search: Users
Of course, the most common use for Instagram search is to look for people. Everyone uses the search bar to explore new accounts whether it’s your friends, celebrities or your favorite influencers!
Simply go to the search bar and type in the name of the person you’re looking for. Certainly, you need to know their name or username first. For example, if you only know someone from a movie, you can’t type in that movie and get results.
You need to know at least part of their name or username.
If you’re looking for a celebrity or verified user, it’s super easy because Instagram will show them at the top of the search results!
For example, when searching for Kardashians, type in their name and click “accounts”. The verified accounts are in the top ten, along with fan accounts or other people that might have the same last name.
When searching for friends, it’s a bit harder. You will need a bit more than just their first and last name. You’ll need both or their username.
Instagram Search: Hashtags
The Instagram search tool is awesome for hashtags. All you need is a word and Instagram suggests lots of different hashtags!
For example, if we need some summer inspo, you only need to type in the word summer.
Instagram then suggests loads of hashtags, such as #summernails, #summervibes or #summerbreak.
This is great for discovering accounts that post about specific things. For example, if you want to follow some more plant accounts, simply follow some of the plant hashtags and discover amazing new accounts!
Also, searching Instagram hashtags is a good idea to find which hashtags to use for your own photos. For instance, if you post about fitness, search the fitness tags.
You’ll find dozens of hashtags you could use on your posts. Try and use ones that aren’t used millions and millions of times otherwise your post will get swamped. Try and aim for most of your hashtags to have under 500,000 searches and use maybe one or two very popular ones.
Instagram Search: Places
If you need to book a holiday and don’t know where to go, use the Instagram search for places to find your next destination!
However, the first option is to search for locations near you. So if you end up in Barcelona on holiday and don’t know what to do, you can use your location to find amazing things to do near you!
On the other hand, you can search for Barcelona, click the location and see everyone’s photos from their own experiences!
This is a great way to find out fun things to do in the places you’re visiting.
Here are some photos from the Barcelona location tag.
If people haven’t said specifically which location it is, then you can always message them and ask where the photo was taken!
More specifically, you can look at different locations to see if a place looks worth going. For example, if you’ve heard a lot about Lake Bled but aren’t sure whether it’s worth going, just Instagram search the location.
Yep, definitely worth it.
