Want to know how to post to Instagram from PC?
Congratulations! You’ve come to the right place.
Most social media sites like Twitter and Facebook give you the same experience on your web browser as you’d get if you downloaded the mobile app. Unfortunately for ‘Grammers, multi-channel functionality isn’t one of the big updates that Instagram has added to their service for 2019.
Ultimately, Instagram was designed to be a mobile app for people who want to connect with their followers through visual content (i.e., videos, pictures, and slideshows). This means that you’re supposed to upload your raw, un-edited images straight from your smartphone.
So, what happens when that strategy just doesn’t work for you?
Why Post to Instagram from PC?
There are plenty of reasons why people prefer to post their Instagram content from their PC, laptop or Mac computers. In 2019, you’ll be battling against more than a billion users for your share of #Instafame. That means you can’t afford to post images (or videos) that don’t stand out.
Uploading your content to your computer or Mac before you place it on Instagram gives you a chance to edit your images in Lightroom or Photoshop first. It also means that you can use a more professional camera to take your shots – rather than relying on your smartphone.
One of the most obvious ways to bypass the smartphone-only rule on Instagram is to upload your photo to your PC, send it to yourself via email, and then upload it from your phone. Of course, that’s all pretty cumbersome, and it’s a serious #Yawnfest going through all those steps.
The good news? There are other options.
Here are a couple of ways you can post to Instagram from PC, Mac or laptop in the new year!
Turning Your Desktop Browser into a Smartphone Browser
Transforming your desktop browser into a smartphone browser might seem like something you need to be a #Hacker to do, but it’s a lot easier than you’d think.
Since NetMarketShare tells us that Chrome makes up about 63.16% of the browser market share, and Safari has around 16.71% the following solutions will account for at least 80% of the Instagram users out there. Just to be certain, we’ll throw a Firefox workaround in for good measure!
If You Have a Mac
If you love to ‘Gram from your Mac, then you’ll probably be using Safari as your default browser.
On your Safari screen, go through to the Preferences tab and click on “Advanced.” You’ll need to click on the tab that reads: “Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar.” After that, open a private window on Safari and go into the new Develop menu. From there, you can click on the tab that says User Agent and pick a Safari mobile browsing option that suits you – we recommend the iOS iPhone.
This makes Instagram think that you’re logging in from an iPhone when you’re actually fueling your ‘Gram addiction on your Mac browser. Pretty sneaky, huh?
If You have a PC
If you have a PC, then you’re probably not going to be using Safari. Fortunately, you can still post to Instagram from PC using Google Chrome!
The process is very similar to the one that we went through above. Start by downloading Chrome onto your browser, and logging into your account. From there, you can open Chrome Developer Tools by pressing the CTRL, Shift and J buttons at the same time.
Once your Developer screen appears, press CTRL+Shift+M to switch to mobile view. You can choose pretty much any mobile device you like to replicate in your Chrome browser, but once again, the iPhone option is one of the simplest.
As you can see from the screenshot above, switching to mobile view also gives you a way to post your Instagram photos, just as you would on the mobile app. Clicking on the add image icon will open your PC file manager, so you can choose the picture you want to upload.
If the buttons you need don’t appear automatically, reload your page to give it another chance to work.
What if You Don’t Use Chrome?
If you don’t use Chrome and you want to post to Instagram from PC, you can try Firefox instead. The same process as you would use on Chrome works for Firefox versions 52 or higher. Simply go into Tools > Web Developer > Responsive Design Mode.
In Responsive Design Mode, you can change the device that your browser things you’re using. It’s as simple as that!
How to Post to Instagram from PC with Third-Party Tools
If the idea of having to change your web browser into a mobile browser seems like too much hard work, but you still want to post to Instagram from PC to boost your organic following, you’re in luck!
You’re far from the only person who would prefer an easier way to post on Insta from a PC. Various developers have begun to create their own applications to help people manage the process with greater ease.
Some of the most popular options include:
Gramblr is one of the best-known tools for posting to Instagram from PC. You can download Mac and Windows versions from the Gramblr website without paying a penny!
Though Gramblr might be simple – it’s incredibly easy to use. The sole purpose of this application is to help you upload content to Instagram from PC or laptop devices, so you don’t have to worry about learning to use a bunch of features. You can also use Gramblr to schedule future uploads too!
BlueStacks is another very popular tool for uploading your Instagram images. Designed to emulate your Android phone, the tool allows you to use virtually any Android app on your computer. However, certain apps won’t work as well on your PC, so just be aware of that fact!
BlueStacks creates a screen that feels and looks just like an Android phone, so you’ll be able to see what your pics will look like when you upload them to Instagram. If you’re concerned about making the right impression on your followers, this could be an excellent tool for you.
If you’re the kind of person who does a lot of uploading, BlueStacks also allows you to map your own unique shortcuts to your keyboard.
Finally, DeskGram is a simple and effective app for when you want to post to Instagram from PC or Mac computers. There are options available for both PC and Mac, and the tool allows you to do multiple things, including viewing images, adding comments to photos from your PC and more. To upload pictures you will need to pay for the “Pro” version at $2.99 per month.
The good news is that DeskGram is a straightforward system to use. The screen is very similar to the Instagram mobile app from days gone by, and it works in a similar way too. You can download DeskGram for your PC here.
