Fortunately, it will only take you less than 5 minutes to erase your search history on Instagram. You can only do that via the Instagram app which is available for iOS, Android and Windows.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app.
Step 2: Log on to Instagram by entering your username and password, or using Facebook. (Skip this step if you are already logged on the app.)
Step 3: Go to your profile page. To do this, tap on the humanoid icon at the bottom right corner of your screen.
Step 4: Click on the three-horizontal-line icon at the top right corner. Then go ‘Settings’, which is the gear icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5: Scroll down until you see ‘Search History’. Tap on it and you will see the ‘Clear search history’ option.
Tap on the option. Instagram will ask you to confirm your choice. Select ‘Yes, I’m sure’.
If you’re using an iPhone, you can also easily clear your search history directly from the Instagram search bar.
From the search bar, you’ll see your search history (a list of users or hashtags you have recently seen) and a ‘Clear’ option on the right corner. Click on the option and this will instantly wipe out your search history.
That’s it! That was easy, wasn’t it?
Now that you know how to delete search history on Instagram, let’s move on to how you can hide individual accounts on Instagram.
How to Prevent Specific Users from Appearing on Your Instagram
You might notice that you’re seeing the same users on your recommended search way too often. And you don’t like that. Good thing is there’s a way to hide these Instagram accounts from your Instagram search history. Follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Open the Instagram app.
Step 2: Log on to your account if you have not.
Step 3: On your profile, you’ll see a magnifying glass icon at the bottom screen — that’s your search button. Tap on it. Then, tap on the ‘Search bar’ located at the very top of the screen.
Step 4: You’ll see four options: top, people, tags and places. Choose ‘Top’ or ‘People’.
Step 5: Tap and hold the user you wish to hide. Instagram will ask you to confirm your selection. Choose ‘Hide’.
And it is done! Once you have done this, you will not see these users again, unless you manually check them out.
But What If the Search History Won’t Go Away?
If you still see your search history even after you’ve cleared it, keep calm and continue reading. There are solutions to the problem.
Let’s dive in!
Restart Your Device
Once you’ve cleared your search history, restart your device. Sometimes all it takes to fix a technical problem on your phone is by simply restarting the device. If that, too, doesn’t work, then try the next solution.
Log Out From Your Instagram
Another way to fix the problem is by logging out from the app. To log out, go to your profile page and tap on the three-horizontal-line icon at the top right corner of the screen.
Then, go to ‘Settings’ and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen where you’ll see the ‘Log out’ option. Tap on it.
Then, restart your device. After that, log on to your Instagram account once again.
Clear App Cache and History
Are you an Android user? Then perhaps you may want to try another solution: you could try clearing your app cache and history.
Step 1: Go to your device’s ‘Settings’ and go to the app management. Depending on what device you have, the name may vary.
Step 2: Tap on the Instagram app and find the app storage.
Step 3: Under the app storage page, you will see two options, ‘Clear Data’ or ‘Clear Storage’, and ‘Clear Cache’.Tap on ‘Clear Cache’.
Step 4: Restart your device. If the problem continues, proceed to step 5.
Step 5: Repeat step 1 and 2. This time, tap on ‘Clear Data’ or ‘Clear Storage’.
When you clear the cache, you only clear the app’s temporary storage, where it keeps temporary images or data from the Internet.
But when you clear the app data, you basically delete all data, like username, password, etc. When this happens, the app will return to the state it once was when you first installed it.
Uninstall Your Instagram
Worse comes to worst, if all of the solutions did not work, another option worth trying is by uninstalling the Instagram app from your device.
To uninstall the app from an Android device, follow these steps:
Step 1: Find ‘Settings’ on your phone and go to the App Management. Then, tap on Instagram.
Step 2: Tap on ‘Uninstall’, or ‘Delete’ as shown on some devices. This will instantly remove the app from your device.
Alternatively, you can:
- Uninstall the app from Google Play store.
- Tap and hold the Instagram app until it wiggles. Then, tap on the ‘X’ button at the top (do this for iPhone).
Do whatever that is the easiest for you. Once you have uninstalled the app, restart your device. Then, reinstall the Instagram app again.
So if you don’t want to leave trails of your Instagram search history, then you should follow the steps shared here on how to delete your search history on Instagram. And hide the Instagram users whom you don’t wish to see on the Instagram search suggestion anymore.
But if clearing your search history is not enough to get the job done, at least you still have another 4 solutions to help you fix the problem. Hopefully, they will work out for you. Good luck!
